The BECs are charged with providing a forum for the construction industry on the crucial area of building enclosures. Through meetings and information resources, the BECs will provide valuable information on successful building enclosure design.


The Building Enclosure Council of Atlanta (BEC-Atlanta) is a sub-committee of the Atlanta Chapter of the American Institute of Architects cooperating with the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) and the Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC).

NIBS was formed by congress as an interface between the government and the private sector on issues of building science and technology. BETEC is a council of the NIBS. BETEC is also known as BEC-National. BEC-Atlanta (on a regional scale) will promote and encourage discussion, training, education, technology transfer, the exchange of information about local issues and cases, relevant weather conditions and all matters concerning building enclosures and the related science.

Organizational Format Building Enclosure Council – Atlanta

The council is research based and holds monthly roundtable discussions of pertinent building enclosure topics and the science that affects them. Monthly topics are selected by the membership. Summaries of the research, roundtable discussions and corresponding written documents are intended to be published and shared with all interested parties. All members are invited to contribute to each topic. Monthly roundtable discussions will typically provide one hour of continuing education.
